Fireworks and Parenting: Fundamental Differences

When a couple falls in love and decides to embark upon a matrimonial journey they discover things about each other that they did not recognize while courting.  And then, when children are introduced into the family, other differences present themselves, and either enhance or detract from the blissful marital state.  One good quality I discovered in my husband which had not presented itself before I gave birth, was the fact that he has an ingrained sense of safety and protection when it comes to our children.  Let me illustrate:

1. When dealing with fireworks, safety goggles are a good option.

2.  Dad's are in charge of lighting the fireworks.
3.  Once the fireworks are lit, and the extent of their safety determined, they will be passed to the children.
4.  When the fireworks have been safely handed off, then and only then...
will you be allowed to run around like wild turkeys.
As a matter of note, no children suffered from a burning, however minor, during our sparkler party.  If you are impressed with this style of parenting, please, for the love of Pete, do not scroll down to the July 2 post entitled "Did you Know."  It may reflect poorly on one of us.

It's all just a matter of balancing each other out...though I think the safety goggles are a bit much!

I think your parenting is fine. He is just anal. The goggles were probably a good idea, at least for one of them, you know, since his eyeball did get burned by flying fireworks the last time. I am surprised though that he didn't have them in head to toe fireman gear. He must be mellowing with age.

I have truely enjoyed all of your holiday posts. I have even learned a thing or two. Come on Reed, I can't wait for your kids to get older, so they can say, "Remember when dad was a FREAK!" J/k. Safety first, being a fireman makes you a little bit freak-ish. Its a good thing.

Those goggles are great! The kids are definitely going to have some good "remember when" stories to tell... So glad there is compatablility between the two of you. It's nice to know can count on your own safety and security.

It is always so fun to see your kids and read your blog. Just luck fishing no good tips. Justin probably put 20 new lines on the poles because of snags. Our friends brother-in-law I think works with Reed. His name is Skip Taylor they don't like him. Have a good week!

They have to wear goggles but no shoes? I have learned shoes are a must... but that's just my stitches talking!
